Laser Wire® Systems  ·  Applications

Best Uses for Laser Wire®

Laser Wire® is 0.9mm, works at 5V, emits light in 360°, and bends to a 5mm radius. That combination opens up applications that simply are not possible with EL Wire, LED strip, or neon. Here is where it truly shines.

Retail Displays & Trade Show Exhibits

Laser Wire®’s thin profile and 5V USB power make it the ideal product for illuminating product displays, shelving edges, showcase lighting, and branded exhibits. It routes around curves and into tight spaces that LED strip cannot reach. Runs can be fed from any USB power brick, making power management in a trade show booth simple. With the Capsule module hidden behind a panel, the only visible element is the fiber itself.

🞔
Product Showcase Lighting
Outline display cases, product pedestals, or shelving with a thin glowing line. Clean, high-tech aesthetic. No heat at the display surface.
🎪
Branded Exhibit Structures
Trace architectural lines, logo outlines, or structural edges on trade show booths. DualDrive gradient mode creates color transitions that stop traffic.
📌
Wayfinding & Directional
Route fiber along floor or wall channels for directional lighting in retail or hospitality environments. Visible from a distance, zero heat, low power draw.

Stage, Entertainment & Theatrical Scenery

Laser Wire® has been used in theatrical productions for over a decade. Its ability to be routed through props, costumes, and scenic elements — and then illuminated on cue via DMX — makes it the professional standard for practical effects lighting. The DMX RGB module enables full color programming from any standard lighting console.

🎭
Theatrical Scenery
Trace architectural features on stage sets, outline structural elements, or create glowing line accents in backdrop panels. Full DMX control.
📷
Live Performance Costumes
With the Welted Profile, Laser Wire® can be sewn directly into costumes. OpalDrive module fits in a pocket. DualDrive creates gradient effects across the garment.
🎵
Concert & Club Lighting
Incorporate glowing accent lines into stage structures, speaker enclosures, DJ booths, and set pieces. USB-powered, easy to run.

Scale Models & Educational Displays

Laser Wire® is uniquely suited for scale model work. Its 0.9mm diameter allows it to represent real-world cables, power lines, conduit runs, and architectural details at model scale. The fiber routes through and around model structures with realistic bends and can be powered from a hidden USB power bank. Educational institutions, architectural firms, and engineering companies use it to add clarity and impact to physical models.

Laser Wire used in a CenterPoint Energy scale model to trace electrical distribution lines through a neighborhood
Scale model electrical grid display using Laser Wire® in red and white to trace power distribution lines through a neighborhood. Built for CenterPoint Energy.

In the model above, white Laser Wire® (Ice profile with blue modules) represents high-voltage transmission lines, while red fiber traces the lower-voltage distribution network. The result is an educational display that communicates network topology at a glance. The entire model runs off two USB power sources.

🏠
Architectural Scale Models
Trace window frames, structural edges, and interior lighting details at model scale. 0.9mm diameter is proportionally accurate at many common model scales.
Utility & Infrastructure Models
Represent power lines, pipelines, conduit runs, or network infrastructure with glowing fibers in different colors. Multiple colors distinguish system types.
🏠
Museum Exhibits & Dioramas
Animate dioramas and exhibit models with glowing accents. Low heat output means no damage to delicate model materials. Runs for 8,000+ hours unattended.

Art Installations

Laser Wire® has appeared in gallery installations, public art pieces, and immersive experiences. Its translucent quality, thin profile, and pure spectral color (red at 635nm, green at 520nm, blue at 450nm) produce a quality of light that is distinct from anything achievable with LED or EL. Artists working with light use it as a drawing tool — laying glowing lines across surfaces, through materials, and across three-dimensional forms.

🎨
Gallery Art
Route fiber through sculptural forms, stretched across canvases, or embedded in resin panels. Pure laser color is visually distinct from any other light technology.
🌞
Immersive Environments
Grid patterns, suspended fiber arrays, or wall-routed fiber runs create three-dimensional light drawings. DualDrive gradient mode adds color depth.

Hollywood Props & Film

Laser Wire® is a staple in the film and television prop world. Props requiring glowing control panels, futuristic costumes, science fiction devices, and medical equipment use Laser Wire® for its thin profile and realistic glow. Because the module is separate from the fiber, the power source can be completely concealed while the glowing element is visible on camera. The speckle effect of laser light can be used creatively — or minimized with specific jacketing.

🎥
Control Panels & Hero Props
Route fiber along panel edges, through buttons, and around displays. The module hides off-prop; only the glowing fiber is seen on camera.
👔
Costume & Wardrobe
Sewn into garments via Welted Profile. OpalDrive module is pocket-sized. Used in sci-fi, superhero, and futuristic wardrobe for feature film and streaming productions.

Wearables & Fashion

The OpalDrive module is specifically designed for wearable applications. At 65x24x12mm, it fits in any pocket or can be sewn into a lining. The 6-hour battery life covers full-night events, and DualDrive mode allows two OpalDrives to create color gradients across a single garment. The Welted Profile allows the fiber to be machine-sewn directly into fabric without breakage.

Automotive & Transportation

Laser Wire® is available in an automotive-grade version tested to -40 to +105°C with humidity and UV solarization certification. It routes along door seams, across dashboards, through headliner panels, and inside trim profiles without heat damage or glue failure. The thin profile and 5mm bend radius make it the only fiber lighting technology that can follow automotive bodyline curves accurately. See the Automotive Brief for full technical specifications.
