Laser Wire® is 0.9mm, works at 5V, emits light in 360°, and bends to a 5mm radius. That combination opens up applications that simply are not possible with EL Wire, LED strip, or neon. Here is where it truly shines.
Laser Wire®’s thin profile and 5V USB power make it the ideal product for illuminating product displays, shelving edges, showcase lighting, and branded exhibits. It routes around curves and into tight spaces that LED strip cannot reach. Runs can be fed from any USB power brick, making power management in a trade show booth simple. With the Capsule module hidden behind a panel, the only visible element is the fiber itself.
Laser Wire® has been used in theatrical productions for over a decade. Its ability to be routed through props, costumes, and scenic elements — and then illuminated on cue via DMX — makes it the professional standard for practical effects lighting. The DMX RGB module enables full color programming from any standard lighting console.
Laser Wire® is uniquely suited for scale model work. Its 0.9mm diameter allows it to represent real-world cables, power lines, conduit runs, and architectural details at model scale. The fiber routes through and around model structures with realistic bends and can be powered from a hidden USB power bank. Educational institutions, architectural firms, and engineering companies use it to add clarity and impact to physical models.
In the model above, white Laser Wire® (Ice profile with blue modules) represents high-voltage transmission lines, while red fiber traces the lower-voltage distribution network. The result is an educational display that communicates network topology at a glance. The entire model runs off two USB power sources.
Laser Wire® has appeared in gallery installations, public art pieces, and immersive experiences. Its translucent quality, thin profile, and pure spectral color (red at 635nm, green at 520nm, blue at 450nm) produce a quality of light that is distinct from anything achievable with LED or EL. Artists working with light use it as a drawing tool — laying glowing lines across surfaces, through materials, and across three-dimensional forms.
Laser Wire® is a staple in the film and television prop world. Props requiring glowing control panels, futuristic costumes, science fiction devices, and medical equipment use Laser Wire® for its thin profile and realistic glow. Because the module is separate from the fiber, the power source can be completely concealed while the glowing element is visible on camera. The speckle effect of laser light can be used creatively — or minimized with specific jacketing.
The OpalDrive module is specifically designed for wearable applications. At 65x24x12mm, it fits in any pocket or can be sewn into a lining. The 6-hour battery life covers full-night events, and DualDrive mode allows two OpalDrives to create color gradients across a single garment. The Welted Profile allows the fiber to be machine-sewn directly into fabric without breakage.
Laser Wire® is available in an automotive-grade version tested to -40 to +105°C with humidity and UV solarization certification. It routes along door seams, across dashboards, through headliner panels, and inside trim profiles without heat damage or glue failure. The thin profile and 5mm bend radius make it the only fiber lighting technology that can follow automotive bodyline curves accurately. See the Automotive Brief for full technical specifications.
We have been building custom Laser Wire® installations since 2010 for film, stage, automotive, and architecture.
