Automotive Applications

Laser Wire® cabling has been advanced from consumer grade to performance-compatible with automotive requirements. Extended temperature testing, humidity, and UV solarization certification. This is the brief for engineers and OEM integrators.

Product Technology Brief

Laser Wire® Cabling has been advanced from consumer grade to performance compatible with auto-grade requirements. Accelerated stress testing protocols on a limited sample size were completed showing significant improvements achieved in extended temperature (-40 to 105°C), humidity, and UV solarization testing. An engineering inventory now exists for prototyping, integration, and evaluation by strategic customers.

Light Diffusion Characteristics

Scattering efficiency across the 420–800nm wavelength range reaches approximately 90–100% between 500nm and 750nm, with a rapid rolloff below 430nm. This means the automotive-grade fiber performs optimally across the visible spectrum (red, green, blue, and white). Near-UV wavelengths below 430nm are substantially attenuated, which is an advantage in applications where UV emission must be minimized.

Application Areas

🚗
Interior Accent Lighting
Door sill illumination, door panel accent lines, center console trim, and headliner accents. The 0.9mm profile routes along seams and into trim gaps that LED strip cannot reach.
🔌
Dashboard & Instrument Panel
Backlight control panel edges, highlight gauge clusters, or trace instrument panel architecture with precise, thin lines of light.
🛠️
Seating & Upholstery
Via Welted Profile, route illuminated welting along seat seams, headrest edges, and door panel stitching lines. Machine-sewable and washable.
🛢
Exterior Accent Lines
Trace bodyline accents, door handle outlines, or rocker panel details with fiber that bends to follow automotive body curves. Automotive-grade jacket withstands temperature and UV.

Why Laser Wire® Over LED Strip in Automotive?

LED Strip
  • Minimum 3–5mm width
  • Requires diffuser for even output
  • Generates heat at the strip
  • Rigid at cut intervals
  • Visible LED hotspots at close range
  • Requires driver or controller
Laser Wire®
  • 0.9mm total diameter
  • Inherently pixel-free along full run
  • No heat at the illuminated surface
  • Bends to 5mm radius continuously
  • Uniform glow with no visible source points
  • Simple 5V DC power via USB
