The only illuminated thread that works like real thread. Sew it, embroider it, run it through an industrial machine. SewGlo™ integrates EL lighting directly into fabric at 0.30 to 0.48mm, invisible until lit.

SewGlo™ Thread Variants
SewGlo™ is available in three engineered variants. Each targets a different segment of the manufacturing and design market. All three are electroluminescent, all machine washable, and all require an EL inverter to operate.

Choose the Right Thread
The correct variant depends on your machine type, the required tensile strength, and how much detail resolution your design needs.
SewGlo™ LT — Fine Detail
Script lettering, fine logos, intricate embroidery on lightweight fabrics. Maximum flexibility at 0.30mm. Best for hand sewing and hobby machines. Not recommended for industrial machines under high tension or any load-bearing seam application.
SewGlo™ HD — General & Production
The go-to for jackets, hats, bags, costumes, and stage builds. Runs through commercial sewing and embroidery machines. At 0.48mm and 60N break strength, it handles production-volume workloads. 8x stronger than LT. The correct choice for most apparel brands starting with SewGlo™.
SewGlo™ XR — Industrial & Structural
Aramid core delivers structural-grade tensile strength for load-bearing seams, safety apparel, and architectural textiles. The only variant rated for continuous 50m+ runs. Double the luminance output of HD at ≥40 cd/m². Launching soon. Contact Ellumiglow for pre-order access and OEM pricing.

Inverter sizing for SewGlo™: SewGlo™ draws approximately 25% of the power of standard EL Wire per foot. An inverter rated for 15 to 30 feet of EL Wire will support 60 to 120 feet of SewGlo™. Calculate your total thread length across all connected strands and select an inverter rated for that load. Optimal drive frequency is 800 to 6,500 Hz.
Usage Guidelines
Best Practices
Bending and Flexibility
SewGlo™ can be knotted without breaking. For wearable applications, it will last the life of the garment. The connection point is the most vulnerable area. Keep it as stationary as possible to extend service life. Do not route the connection point across high-flex areas of a garment.
Sewing and Embroidery
Hand stitch exactly like standard thread. For sewing machines, run under 5,000 psi tension. For embroidery machines, set thread diameter to 0.4mm and reduce tension. High-speed passes can snap the fiber. Slow, consistent passes work best for all machine types.
Brightness Conditions
LT outputs ≥13 cd/m², HD and XR output ≥20 and ≥40 cd/m² respectively. All variants look vivid at night or in low-light environments. In direct sunlight, the glow will wash out. Plan your application's lighting conditions before specifying the variant and inverter.
Power Selection
SewGlo™ draws roughly 1/4 the power of standard EL Wire per foot. Calculate total thread length across all strands and select an inverter rated for that load. Requires 800 to 6,500 Hz for best output. Battery packs and wall-outlet adapters both supported.
Cleaning
Machine wash cold, hang dry. Remove all electronics (battery, inverter, connectors) before washing. Apply waterproof adhesive to the cut end of any trimmed thread to seal out moisture before washing. Rated for 100 wash cycles.
Cutting
The thread glows to the cut point. Apply waterproof adhesive to the cut end to seal out moisture and debris. The cut end does not need power applied to it. Only one end of each continuous thread segment requires a power connection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does SewGlo™ require an inverter?
Yes. All EL-based products require an EL inverter operating at 800 to 6,500 Hz. Battery packs and wall-outlet AC adapters are both supported. The inverter connects between the power source and the thread via a JST connector and a pigtail lead.
Can it be cut to length?
Yes. The thread glows up to the cut point. Apply waterproof adhesive to the cut end to seal out moisture. You can cut SewGlo™ to any length needed for your project. Each cut segment requires its own power connection.
Is it machine washable?
Yes. All three variants are rated for machine wash cold, hang dry, for up to 100 cycles. Remove the battery pack and inverter before washing. Seal the connector end with waterproof adhesive before frequent laundering.
LT vs HD — which should I order?
LT for fine detail, hand sewing, and delicate fabrics. HD for production runs, industrial machines, and any build that requires brighter output or higher durability. When in doubt, HD is the right starting point for most commercial applications.
