Lighting Zones

Every Zone, Explained.

Cove Lighting

Strip runs along the ceiling perimeter inside a cove or crown molding channel. Creates indirect, ultra-smooth ambient light with no visible fixtures. Hotspot-free LED is essential here — standard LED strips show individual pixels against the ceiling.

Best: Pixel-Free LED Trim or Base Trim · 4000K or 2700K
Under-Cabinet

Strip mounts under upper cabinets to illuminate the countertop. Key requirements: slim profile, no visible hotspots on the counter surface, and a color temperature that works with the kitchen finish. On-Board COB LED is ideal here.

Best: On-Board COB LED · 3000K or 4000K · Slim profile
Toe Kick / Floor Accent

Runs along the cabinet base or furniture toe kick to create a floating, grounded effect. Usually a neutral or cool white at low intensity. Pixel-Free LED at 20–30% brightness creates a subtle, architectural glow without glare.

Best: Pixel-Free LED Base Trim · Low density · 4000K
Shelf Accent

Individual strips under each shelf to illuminate display items, books, or bar bottles. Short runs per shelf — often 2–4 ft each. COB strip is best here because it produces even light across objects without a hotspot pattern on the items below.

Best: On-Board COB LED · Any CCT · Short per-shelf runs
Wall Wash

Strip positioned to graze or wash a feature wall — a technique that reveals texture in stone, brick, or plaster while adding dramatic visual depth. Place 6–12 inches from the wall surface. High-density strips produce a more even wash.

Best: High-density Pixel-Free LED · Warm white · 2700–3000K
RGB / RGBW

Color-changing strips for accent zones, entertainment rooms, or areas where you want the ability to change the mood. RGBW adds a dedicated white channel for better white rendering and more natural-looking color mixing.

Best: Pixel-Free RGB or RGBW · Pair with a quality controller
