LED Neon Replacement:
The Complete Guide

Traditional neon is expensive, fragile, and difficult to install. LED alternatives have closed the gap. Here is how to choose the right solution for your project.

The Case for Switching

Why Designers Are Moving Away From Traditional Neon

Glass neon tubes built the visual language of the 20th century. They are iconic for a reason. But the realities of sourcing, installation, maintenance, and cost have pushed most modern projects toward LED alternatives that deliver comparable visual impact at a fraction of the complexity.

💰

Cost

Custom glass neon typically runs $200 to $500 per linear foot installed. LED neon alternatives cost a fraction of that, with no special electrician required for most installations.

Energy Use

Traditional neon runs on high-voltage transformers and draws significantly more power than LED equivalents. LED alternatives reduce energy consumption by up to 80%.

🔧

Installation

Glass neon requires licensed electricians and high-voltage wiring. LED options are low-voltage, lightweight, and can be installed by anyone with basic skills.

🛡️

Durability

Glass tubes shatter. They are sensitive to vibration, temperature swings, and UV exposure. LED neon products have no fragile glass components and a much longer service life.

🎨

Color Options

Neon is limited to a narrow range of gas colors. LED alternatives support tunable color, RGB, and dynamic control that glass neon simply cannot achieve.

📦

Lead Time

Custom glass neon can take weeks to fabricate. LED alternatives ship off the shelf, ready to cut and configure on-site.

Laser Wire®: Bend It, Set It, Done.

Not every neon project needs a professional installation. If you are outfitting a home bar, game room, garage, or personal studio, Laser Wire gives you the look without the complexity.

How it works: Laser Wire is a 4mm diameter flexible LED tube. Apply a standard heat gun and it becomes pliable enough to bend into any shape, letters, curves, or contours. Let it cool to room temperature and it holds its form permanently. No special tools, no adhesives, no custom fabrication required.

1

Plan Your Shape

Sketch out or print your design at actual size. Tape it to a flat surface as a guide while you work.

2

Apply Heat

Use a standard heat gun on a low to medium setting. Work in small sections, holding the tube against your template as it warms up and becomes flexible.

3

Hold and Cool

Hold the tube in position for 10 to 15 seconds. At room temperature it becomes rigid and retains its shape. No clamps, no glue required.

4

Mount and Power

Attach to your surface using the included mounting clips or adhesive backing. Connect to a standard 12V driver and you are done.
