Laser Wire is Coming
Laser Wire is a new laser-based wire that lights up bright like LED’s, but has an even illumination, similar to EL Wire. The difference between EL Wire and Laser Wire by Fibrance really has to be seen to be believed, but there is a difference in thickness, flexibility, weight, brightness, and power requirements.
Thickness: The Thickness of Laser Wire is about 1mm in diameter. Comparing this to EL Wire, which is 1.4mm, 2.6mm, and 5.0mm. The thinner profile allows for use in more areas, while still being seen perfectly.
Flexibility: When comparing Laser Wire, it’s more suitable to be compared to a wet noodle, rather than a wire. It’s so pliable that it will contour around edges, which makes it perfect for the wearables market. Jackets, pants, hats, etc would benefit greatly from the use of laser technology.
Weight: Because the inside is only light, the outer core is extremely thin. The nano optical glass particles inside make it extremely lightweight, weighing in at around 1 gram per meter. Adding this to clothing, shoes and more makes this technology the right fit.
Brightness: Coming in at around 4x the brightness of EL Wire, Laser Wire can be seen in daylight, which makes it a great replacement for neon signs. Gone are the days of ugly, limited neon signs that can only bend in minimal directions. Welcome the new age of Neon, Laser.
Power: Because Laser Wire requires a single power source, the line can be extremely long (approximately 32’) with the same power requirements no matter the distance. With a 20mW laser at the helm, including color changing and other features still only takes a fraction of power compared to other light sources. A typical 30’ strip of EL Wire would consume about 500mA of power, as opposed to a similar laser wire length which would consume about 40mA.
While we still think EL Wire is a great product for many, many applications, Laser Wire is the light of the future, brought to you by Ellumiglow.
